SOCKET HEAD CAP SCREW — PRODUCT INTRODUCTION

The Socket Head Cap Screw conforms to ASME B 18.3-2003 (R2008), with [Table 1A] specifically denoting its inch-series dimensional requirements. The screw features a flat-top cylindrical head with a precision-machined internal hex socket at the center, a fully or partially threaded shank, and American Unified Thread (UNC/UNF) threads. Materials primarily include alloy steel (ASTM A574) and stainless steel (ASTM F837), with heat treatment providing high tensile strength. The hex socket drive allows installation in confined spaces, making it a standardized, high-strength precision fastener widely recognized in machinery, molds, and precision equipment.

I. PRODUCT FEATURES

Flat-top cylindrical head design: The head is a standard low cylindrical body with a flat top surface and slight edge chamfer. The large head diameter provides a wide, flat bearing surface — often eliminating the need for separate washers.

Precision hex socket: The center of the head features a cold-forged internal hex socket that mates tightly with a standard hex key (Allen wrench), enabling precise torque transmission with minimal socket wear.

Inch thread system: UNC (coarse) or UNF (fine) threads — such as 1/4-20 UNC, 3/8-16 UNC, and others — with thread pitch and profile fully conforming to the ASME Unified Thread Standard.

High strength and hardness: Alloy steel material is quench-and-tempered to typically meet the ASME 180 ksi strength class, equivalent to metric Class 12.9.

Multiple surface finishes: Common options include black oxide (phosphate), zinc plating, nickel plating, and black oxide with oil coating, offering both corrosion protection and aesthetic finish variety.

II. PRODUCT ADVANTAGES

Minimal installation space: Hex key operation requires only the screw’s own diameter in clearance, making it ideal for multi-cavity molds, deep bores, and tightly packed component installations.

High tightening efficiency without slippage: The hex socket provides excellent centering and can withstand high input torque; when paired with pneumatic or electric hex bit drivers, rapid assembly is achieved, with the socket showing minimal wear on repeated use.

Excellent fit in tool-and-die applications: As a globally standardized component, it offers uniform specifications, strong interchangeability, and easy field maintenance and replacement.

High load-bearing capacity: The cylindrical head can withstand substantial preload forces; combined with high-strength material, it is suitable for connections subject to shock, vibration, and heavy loads — preventing bearing surface crushing.

Clean and professional appearance: After installation, only the neat cylindrical head is visible, creating a clean, professional look that meets the requirements of industrial products and export equipment.

III. APPLICATION AREAS

Molds and tooling fixtures: Fastening of cavities, backing plates, and stripper plates in injection molds; assembly of stamping die components and tooling fixtures.

Machine tools and power equipment: Fastening of spindle housings, tool turrets, and gearboxes in machine tools; auxiliary component connections in engines and compressors.

Industrial machinery and automation equipment: Joints in robotic arms, linear rail clamping blocks, and fluid valve body connections at structurally critical points with high-strength requirements.

Hydraulic and pneumatic components: Hydraulic valve blocks, cylinder end caps, manifold side plates, and fasteners in confined or blind-hole locations.

Other closely packed structures: Equipment housings in printing machinery, textile machinery, and packaging machinery — applications where smooth, unobstructed surfaces are essential.

Procurement Questions

Common procurement questions about specification, material, finish and delivery.

Please confirm the application position, load, connection thickness and working environment first, then match diameter, length, thread pitch, material, strength grade, surface finish and applicable standard. Drawings, photos or old samples help us quote more accurately.

Hot-dip galvanizing and Dacromet are common choices for outdoor applications. For humid, coastal or chemical environments, stainless steel 304/316 or higher corrosion-resistant solutions may be better.

Please provide drawings or 3D files, material, dimensions, tolerance, grade, surface treatment, packing method and quantity. If drawings are not ready, samples or installation photos can also be reviewed.

Bolts and nuts should match nominal diameter, thread pitch, thread type, standard and strength grade. High-strength connections should also use suitable washers and anti-loosening solutions.

Application Scenarios

Choose material, grade and surface treatment based on real working conditions.

Construction

Steel structures, curtain walls, embedded parts and site assembly.

Machinery

Equipment assembly, maintenance parts and frame fixing.

Solar Mounting

Outdoor brackets, corrosion resistance and weather exposure.
