Square Drive Fiberboard Screw — Product Introduction
The Square Drive Fiberboard Screw is a heat-treated fastener belonging to a specialized category of fiberboard screws. Its head features a distinctive square recess (Square drive), designed primarily for connecting and securing wooden panels to each other, as well as wooden panels to thin steel sheets. It is suitable for installation using power tools. This product primarily complies with the German standard DIN 7505, with thread specifications ranging from M2.5 to M6.0. It can effectively replace non-heat-treated ordinary wood screws and is widely used in industries such as furniture manufacturing.
I. Product Features
1. Square Drive Recess The drive type is a square recess (Square), requiring dedicated driver bits. Compared to Phillips (cross) and Pozidriv drives, square drive screws have a relatively lower market share, making them a differentiated product offering.
2. Heat Treatment Process The product undergoes carburizing heat treatment. For carbon steel materials, the surface hardness reaches 45–53 HRC, while the core hardness is maintained at 28–36 HRC, achieving the performance requirement of “hard exterior, tough interior.”
3. Full Thread Design The thread follows a single-start spiral pattern, typically designed as full thread. The threads are sharp with a larger pitch, facilitating rapid penetration into wood.
4. Optional Structural Enhancements Some products feature reinforced ribs on the head—either four-rib or six-rib designs—and incorporate single-cut or double-cut notching at the tip to enhance locking performance and installation efficiency.
5. Diverse Surface Treatments Electroplating is commonly used, with surface coatings typically including blue-white zinc or yellow zinc (iridescent/passivate). Phosphating and other treatments can also be applied to improve corrosion resistance.
II. Product Advantages
1. Excellent Anti-Splitting Performance Unlike ordinary wood screws, fiberboard screws feature optimized thread designs that effectively reduce the risk of splitting when used on hardwood. Certain square drive products with notched tips support a “hammer-in first, then drive” installation method, further preventing wood shock-splitting.
2. Balanced Strength and Toughness Through carburizing treatment, the product surface achieves high hardness to resist wear, while the core maintains good toughness to withstand torque, making it resistant to brittle fracture.
3. High Installation Efficiency The optimized thread design improves driving speed. For smaller specifications, pre-drilling is not required—the screws can be driven directly, making them ideal for batch operations with power tools.
4. Strong Substitution Capability Can effectively replace non-heat-treated ordinary wood screws, providing more secure and reliable connections while saving time and costs.
III. Application Scope
Furniture Manufacturing Widely used in the assembly and connection of wooden components for cabinets, wardrobes, office furniture, and other furniture products.
Guide Rail and Hinge Installation Commonly used for securing furniture hardware accessories such as guide rails and hinges. Typical specifications include M3.5×16 and similar sizes.
Fish Anchor Installation Used in combination with fish-style expansion anchors for securing panels to walls.
Thin Steel Sheet Connection Suitable for connecting and securing wooden panels to thin steel sheets.
Wooden Structure Engineering Can be used in outdoor wooden structures such as wooden bridge decking and wooden walkways/boardwalks.
