Marine Shackle — Straight Shackle Series — Product Introduction
Marine shackle — straight shackle series (also called D-type shackle or U-type shackle) is a connecting rigging used in ship and marine engineering. It is mainly used to connect cables, chains, anchor chains, slings, etc., and can also secure cables or chains to deck eye rings and other devices. This series generally follows standards such as GB/T 4568 (formerly CB/T 608) or GB/T 25854. According to body shape, it is divided into two major categories: straight and round. The straight shackle is named for its D-shaped or U-shaped body. Nominal specifications cover a wide range, from several kN to several hundred kN, meeting connection needs under different load conditions.
1. Product Features
• Integral forging process: The shackle body must be integrally forged, and the cross pin is made by forging or machining from round steel, ensuring dense internal structure and reliable strength.
• Heat treatment specifications: The shackle body and cross pin should be normalized before machining to refine grains, improve mechanical properties, and provide a stable material foundation for subsequent processing and use.
• Strict surface quality: The product surface must not have defects such as scars, cracks, or laminations. Before delivery, it must be painted or galvanized to enhance rust resistance.
• Diverse pin structures: The cross pin of straight shackles has various designs, including round head pin (can be operated by hand), flat head pin (requires screwdriver), square head pin, threaded pin, and structures with safety nuts, to suit different installation and removal needs.
• Flexible material selection: Common materials include carbon steel (such as 45# steel), alloy steel (such as 40Cr, 35CrMo), and stainless steel. The appropriate material can be selected according to the service environment.
2. Product Advantages
• Reliable load capacity: The allowable load of the shackle has a clear calculation formula. The allowable load of a straight shackle is approximately 4.5D² (tons), where D is the diameter of the shackle body (mm), providing a quantitative basis for selection.
• High safety factor: The product must undergo a tensile test. The test load is twice the rated load, and the test duration is not less than 5 minutes. After the test, permanent deformation is not allowed, and the cross pin should be able to be freely pulled out or inserted.
• Adaptable to harsh marine environments: Marine shackles need to pass certifications from international classification societies such as ABS and DNV. Material requirements and forging processes are stricter than land-based products, with stronger corrosion and wear resistance.
• Convenient operation: The round head straight shackle has a ring-shaped pin handle at the pin end, allowing hand fastening and release without tools. It is convenient for use in stern towing connections, overwater component connections, and other occasions.
3. Scope of Application
• Ship mooring and towing: Used to connect cables, chains, anchor chains, as well as the connection between stern towing steel cables and towlines, and connections between overwater components.
• Anchor chain and anchor connection: Used as an anchor shackle to connect the anchor and anchor chain. It is a key connecting component of a ship's anchoring system.
• Deck eye ring fixing: Secures cables and chains to deck eye rings (plates) and other devices for mooring and load bearing.
• Lifting and hoisting: Used as a detachable connecting component in ship lifting equipment and marine engineering hoisting operations.
• Block and rigging connection: Used for hanging blocks, adjusting steel cable length, or connecting relatively flat components.
