Flat Round Head Lantern Rivet Nut — Product Introduction

The flat round head lantern rivet nut (also called lantern rivet nut, lantern pull cap, or LBN type rivet nut) is a pull riveting fastener designed for thin sheets and soft materials. Its cylindrical body has several longitudinal slots, cutting the bottom into multiple radially expandable “petal” structures, making the whole shape resemble a lantern, hence the name. During installation, a riveting tool applies pulling force from one side, causing the bottom petals to expand outward and grip tightly against the back of the sheet, forming a firm mechanical lock. This product is usually used for plastic sheets, gypsum boards, wood boards and other soft or fragile materials, and can also be used for thin sheets of iron, aluminum and stainless steel.

1. Product Features

• Flat round head structure: The head is designed as a flat round head (flange). After installation, the flange remains exposed on the sheet surface, providing a larger load-bearing contact surface.
• Lantern-style slotted body: The cylindrical part has four evenly distributed axial slots. After riveting, the bottom expands into a cross-shaped petal form, providing a larger force-bearing area and more stable clamping.
• Single-side installation: Operation is required only from one side of the sheet, with no working space needed on the back. It is especially suitable for closed boxes, pipes or space-limited applications.
• Various specifications: Common specifications include M5, M6, M8, M10 and inch sizes such as 10-32, 1/4-20, 5/16-18, etc.
• Materials and surface treatments: Commonly used materials include 304 stainless steel, 316 stainless steel, carbon steel and aluminum alloy. Carbon steel parts can be zinc plated, while stainless steel parts are usually passivated.

2. Product Advantages

• Protects soft materials: After the lantern-style petals expand, they form a large-area contact with the sheet, avoiding local stress concentration and effectively preventing plastic, wood and other soft or brittle materials from being crushed or torn.
• Firm riveting and high tensile strength: The petal-shaped deformation zone provides a larger clamping range and tensile resistance, ensuring stable and reliable connection.
• Single-side operation and high installation efficiency: It can be riveted with pneumatic or manual rivet guns without welding or tapping, greatly improving assembly efficiency.
• No heat effect: It is a purely mechanical cold working process, which does not produce high-temperature deformation or damage to the base material like welding.
• Provides a detachable internal thread: After installation, a standard internal threaded hole is formed, allowing bolts to be repeatedly screwed in and out for easy maintenance.

3. Scope of Application

• Soft and brittle sheets: Fastening connections for plastic sheets, PVC boards, wood boards, gypsum boards and other materials are the most prominent application scenarios for lantern rivet nuts.
• Thin sheet metal structures: Threaded support installation on thin sheets of iron, aluminum and stainless steel, especially suitable for closed pipes or applications where the back side cannot be accessed.
• Automotive and rail transit: Thin sheet connection points such as body interior parts, battery packs and chassis accessories.
• Home appliances and electronic equipment: Sheet metal assembly for air conditioners, refrigerators, washing machines and other appliance housings, as well as chassis and cabinets.
• General industrial manufacturing: Fields requiring single-side riveting, such as furniture, elevator components, communication equipment and architectural decoration.

Procurement Questions

Common procurement questions about specification, material, finish and delivery.

Please confirm the application position, load, connection thickness and working environment first, then match diameter, length, thread pitch, material, strength grade, surface finish and applicable standard. Drawings, photos or old samples help us quote more accurately.

Hot-dip galvanizing and Dacromet are common choices for outdoor applications. For humid, coastal or chemical environments, stainless steel 304/316 or higher corrosion-resistant solutions may be better.

Please provide drawings or 3D files, material, dimensions, tolerance, grade, surface treatment, packing method and quantity. If drawings are not ready, samples or installation photos can also be reviewed.

Bolts and nuts should match nominal diameter, thread pitch, thread type, standard and strength grade. High-strength connections should also use suitable washers and anti-loosening solutions.

Application Scenarios

Choose material, grade and surface treatment based on real working conditions.

Construction

Steel structures, curtain walls, embedded parts and site assembly.

Machinery

Equipment assembly, maintenance parts and frame fixing.

Solar Mounting

Outdoor brackets, corrosion resistance and weather exposure.
