Round Insert Nut — Product Introduction

A round insert nut is a circular fastener with an internal thread, used for embedding into soft base materials such as plastics, wood, rubber, and composite materials. It is typically installed by press-in, heat-staking, or ultrasonic insertion. The product complies with GB 809-1988. Its body is cylindrical, and the outer surface usually features knurling, straight ridges, or grooves to increase friction with the base material, preventing rotation and pull-out.

The standard material is generally brass H62, often with a nickel-plated surface, offering good corrosion resistance and an attractive appearance. Stainless steel, zinc alloy, or carbon steel (requiring surface treatment) can also be selected according to application requirements.

I. Product Features

  • Circular structure, easy insert installation: The cylindrical body can be embedded into soft materials by press-in, heat-staking, or ultrasonic methods, and bonds closely with the base material after installation.
  • Knurled or straight-ridged outer wall: Surface knurling, straight ridges, or annular grooves effectively increase the bite with plastics, wood, and other materials, preventing the nut from rotating inside the base material.
  • Standardized internal thread: The internal thread dimensions and tolerances are manufactured to relevant standards, compatible with standard bolts and screws, providing good versatility.
  • Mainly made of brass: The standard material is brass H62, offering moderate strength, easy machinability, and good corrosion resistance; after nickel plating, the surface is bright and wear-resistant.
  • No or minimal protrusion after installation: The nut can be embedded within the base material, keeping the surface flat and attractive, suitable for appearance-sensitive applications.

II. Product Advantages

  • Reliable connection, resistant to pull-out and torsion: The knurled or grooved structure keeps the nut from turning or pulling out of the base material, allowing it to withstand certain tensile and torque loads.
  • Suitable for soft materials: It solves the problem that low-strength materials such as plastic and wood cannot be directly tapped or have threads that easily damage, providing durable metal threads for soft materials.
  • Easy installation, high efficiency: Simple press-in, heat-staking, or ultrasonic insertion processes are suitable for mass production and automated assembly.
  • Neat appearance, reusable: After embedding, the base material surface remains flat without damage to the external structure; the metal thread is wear-resistant and allows repeated assembly/disassembly without stripping.
  • Strong material adaptability: Nickel-plated brass is the standard configuration, while stainless steel and other materials are available to meet different corrosion resistance, strength, or environmental requirements.

III. Application Scope

Round insert nuts are widely used where metal threads need to be embedded into non-metallic base materials. Common fields include:

  • Electronics and electrical appliances: Plastic housings, chassis, instrument cases, connector fixing, etc.
  • Furniture manufacturing: Panel furniture, connections between plastic parts and wood, assembly of tables, chairs, and cabinets.
  • Automotive components: Plastic trim parts, dashboards, bumpers, lamp housings, and other plastic components.
  • Communication and office equipment: Plastic casings, printers, copiers, router housings, etc.
  • Toys and sporting goods: Connections of plastic structures, handles, protective gear, etc.
  • Medical devices: Plastic housings, equipment panels, rehabilitation equipment, etc.
  • Other threaded connection points in plastic, wood, and composite products.

Procurement Questions

Common procurement questions about specification, material, finish and delivery.

Please confirm the application position, load, connection thickness and working environment first, then match diameter, length, thread pitch, material, strength grade, surface finish and applicable standard. Drawings, photos or old samples help us quote more accurately.

Hot-dip galvanizing and Dacromet are common choices for outdoor applications. For humid, coastal or chemical environments, stainless steel 304/316 or higher corrosion-resistant solutions may be better.

Please provide drawings or 3D files, material, dimensions, tolerance, grade, surface treatment, packing method and quantity. If drawings are not ready, samples or installation photos can also be reviewed.

Bolts and nuts should match nominal diameter, thread pitch, thread type, standard and strength grade. High-strength connections should also use suitable washers and anti-loosening solutions.

Application Scenarios

Choose material, grade and surface treatment based on real working conditions.
