Aluminum Alloy Press-Fit Rivet Nut — Product Introduction

Aluminum alloy press-fit rivet nuts are fasteners permanently installed into thin metal sheets through a clinching process, belonging to the category of self-clinching nuts. Made from high-quality aluminum alloy, commonly using 2xxx or 6xxx series aluminum, they feature lightweight construction, non-magnetic properties, and excellent corrosion resistance. During installation, the rivet nut is pressed into a pre-punched or drilled mounting hole using clinching equipment; the knurled or anti-rotation teeth on the nut head cold-interlock with the sheet material, forming a secure internal thread connection point. This product is ideal for thin-sheet structures, lightweight designs, and weight-sensitive applications.

I. Product Features

  • Lightweight material: Manufactured from aluminum alloy with a density of approximately 2.7 to 2.8 g/cm³, roughly one-third that of carbon steel press-fit nuts, effectively reducing overall structural weight.
  • Self-clinching structure: Equipped with anti-rotation teeth or knurling, which cold-interlock with the base material after pressing, providing excellent torque-out resistance and push-out resistance.
  • Non-magnetic with good electrical and thermal conductivity: Aluminum alloy is inherently non-magnetic with excellent electrical and thermal conductivity, suitable for electronics, telecommunications, and medical equipment with magnetic requirements.
  • Simple installation without surface damage: Cold-press clinching process completes installation in a single press — no welding or additional fastening required — without damaging the coating or oxide layer on the sheet surface.
  • High thread precision: Internal threads manufactured to standard tolerances, compatible with conventional metric, unified, or imperial thread screws, ensuring consistent connection quality.
  • Suitable for thin-sheet connections: Reliably installs on relatively thin metal sheets, typically with a minimum panel thickness of approximately 0.8 mm or more, depending on the nut size and sheet material.
  • Multiple surface treatment options: Supports anodizing, chemical passivation, and other surface treatments to enhance corrosion resistance and appearance consistency.

II. Product Advantages

  • Significant weight reduction: Compared with steel or stainless steel press-fit nuts of the same size, aluminum alloy versions reduce weight by approximately 60% to 70%, making them especially suitable for weight-critical fields such as aerospace, portable devices, and new energy vehicles.
  • High installation reliability: After clinching, the nut forms a cold-press interlock structure with the sheet, providing stable torque and push-out performance that resists loosening or rotation, well-suited for vibration-prone environments.
  • Preserves sheet surface appearance: The cold-press process has no heat-affected zone, avoiding discoloration or deformation of the sheet and preserving pre-coated or anodized surfaces — ideal for products with appearance requirements.
  • Lower overall cost: Aluminum alloy material costs are moderate and processing efficiency is high, suitable for mass production. It also reduces subsequent welding, tapping, and other operations, lowering total manufacturing costs.
  • Excellent compatibility with aluminum alloy panels: When used with aluminum alloy enclosures, panels, or other structures, it reduces the risk of galvanic corrosion caused by dissimilar metal contact, outperforming steel nuts in such applications.
  • Environmentally friendly and recyclable: Aluminum alloy is recyclable, meeting environmental and sustainable development requirements.
  • Flexible surface treatment options: Anodizing, chemical conversion coatings, coloring, and other treatments are available to meet diverse requirements for appearance, insulation, or corrosion protection.

III. Applications

  • Electronics and telecommunications equipment: Server chassis, router housings, communication cabinets, power module enclosures, heat sink mounting, etc.
  • Instruments and meters: Instrument enclosures, control panels, sensor brackets, display equipment frames, etc.
  • Automotive industry: Lightweight body accessories, interior component fastening, battery pack structural parts, in-vehicle electronic equipment brackets, and other non-heavy-duty connection locations.
  • Aerospace: Airborne electronic equipment mounting plates, interior panels, non-structural support brackets, instrument panels, and other weight-sensitive areas.
  • Medical devices: Portable medical equipment, non-magnetic equipment enclosures, diagnostic instrument panels, etc.
  • Railway transportation: Interior components, electrical cabinets, console panels, lightweight accessory connections, etc.
  • Aluminum alloy products and frames: Aluminum profile racks, lamp housings, display stands, protective covers, sheet metal parts, etc.

Procurement Questions

Common procurement questions about specification, material, finish and delivery.

Please confirm the application position, load, connection thickness and working environment first, then match diameter, length, thread pitch, material, strength grade, surface finish and applicable standard. Drawings, photos or old samples help us quote more accurately.

Hot-dip galvanizing and Dacromet are common choices for outdoor applications. For humid, coastal or chemical environments, stainless steel 304/316 or higher corrosion-resistant solutions may be better.

Please provide drawings or 3D files, material, dimensions, tolerance, grade, surface treatment, packing method and quantity. If drawings are not ready, samples or installation photos can also be reviewed.

Bolts and nuts should match nominal diameter, thread pitch, thread type, standard and strength grade. High-strength connections should also use suitable washers and anti-loosening solutions.

Application Scenarios

Choose material, grade and surface treatment based on real working conditions.
