KNURLED THROUGH-HOLE PANEL NUT WITH CENTER SLOT, ENCLOSED TYPE, Q-TYPE — PRODUCT INTRODUCTION
The Knurled Through-Hole Panel Nut with Center Slot, Enclosed Type, Q-Type, is an insert-type fastener designed to be press-fitted into pre-punched holes, providing a permanent and secure internal thread on thin-walled components. The applicable standard is GB/T 17880.5 (equivalent to the legacy standard DIN 16903 Type Q). The nut features an enclosed bottom, a slot on the end face (single or cross), and straight knurling on the outer surface, which effectively prevents rotation after installation. It is widely used in enclosed or semi-enclosed structures where only single-side installation is possible.
I. PRODUCT FEATURES
Enclosed blind-hole structure: The nut bottom is fully enclosed. When a screw is threaded in, it forms a sealed barrier that effectively prevents dust, moisture, or corrosive liquids from entering the equipment interior.
Anti-rotation knurled teeth: The outer cylindrical surface is machined with straight knurling. After being pressed into plastic or softer metal substrates, the knurled teeth bite into the base material, providing high-strength resistance to rotational torque — no additional locking mechanisms are required.
End-face installation and removal slot: The through-hole end face features a single-slot or cross-slot design, allowing quick screw-in installation with standard tools and easy removal during later maintenance.
Materials and finishes: Typically manufactured from free-machining steel (zinc/nickel plated) or stainless steel and brass. Sizes are standardized with strong interchangeability, covering M2 to M8 in small to medium specifications.
II. PRODUCT ADVANTAGES
Single-side operation, quick installation: Supports blind-hole installation — simply press in from one side of the panel to complete assembly. No welding or back-side locking is required, solving installation challenges in enclosed pipes, cabinets, and other areas inaccessible from the rear.
Protects the substrate, provides a clean appearance: Compared to weld nuts, press-fit installation eliminates heat distortion and weld marks, leaves the panel coating undamaged, and perfectly maintains the equipment’s flat, smooth, and aesthetically pleasing surface.
Sealing and insulation properties: The Q-type enclosed design inherently provides leak-proof functionality — not only dust and water resistant, but also preventing screw-tip discharge inside electrical equipment, protecting internal circuits.
Prevents loosening: The knurling embeds into the base material, offering superior resistance to loosening under high-frequency micro-vibration compared to simple washer-and-nut assemblies, reducing maintenance frequency.
III. APPLICATION AREAS
Electronic and instrument enclosures: Fastening of cover plates or back panels for aluminum or plastic power housings, communication equipment, and medical instrument enclosures.
Automotive components: Blind-hole assembly areas on automotive interior trim, instrument panels, and plastic headlamp housings where air tightness and surface flatness are required.
Hardware and furniture: Concealed connections for high-end metal tube furniture, office equipment stands, and display fixtures.
Electrical switchgear cabinets: Sealed, dust-proof electrical control boxes, junction box housings, and enclosures requiring protection from environmental ingress.
