HEX COUPLING NUT — PRODUCT INTRODUCTION

This product is a hex coupling nut, typically designed as a tall or standard heavy hex configuration with internal threads running through the entire nut body. Both end faces are precision machined to ensure perpendicularity to the thread axis. It is commonly used in conjunction with high-strength bolts to transmit clamping force through face contact, providing secure fastening connections in steel structures. Available performance grades include Grade 8, Grade 10, and Grade 12, with materials selected based on grade requirements—typically high-quality carbon structural steel or alloy structural steel, subjected to quenching and tempering heat treatment.

I. PRODUCT FEATURES

Tall or Standard Heavy Hex Design: Compared to ordinary nuts, coupling nuts feature a greater height (or heavy hex series), with more thread turns and higher load capacity, effectively distributing stress across a larger area.

Face Load-Bearing: The top and bottom faces are flat and perpendicular to the thread axis, ensuring uniform contact with washers or flange surfaces to avoid eccentric loading.

High-Precision Thread Fit: Typically manufactured to 6H/6G tolerance class, offering tight fit with bolts, excellent vibration resistance and anti-loosening performance, with threads less prone to deformation under high preload.

Strict Heat Treatment: Quenching and tempering (quenching plus high-temperature tempering) is performed in accordance with [Table13] requirements, ensuring uniform hardness across the entire cross-section, with hardness ranges typically controlled more strictly than ordinary nuts.

II. PRODUCT ADVANTAGES

High Preload Capacity: Designed to withstand preload forces approaching the bolt’s yield limit without stripping or cracking, making it especially suitable for steel structure connections requiring precise preload control.

Excellent Fatigue Resistance: Higher material purity requirements (especially for Grade 10 and Grade 12, with strict control of S and P impurities) provide significantly superior resistance to fatigue fracture under high-frequency vibration and alternating load conditions compared to lower-grade nuts.

Anti-Seizure Design: High-grade coupling nut materials are typically selected in consideration of matching bolts (e.g., alloy steel paired with alloy steel). Combined with specific surface lubrication or coating, this effectively reduces the risk of thread seizure (cold welding) under large sizes and high torque conditions.

Traceable Quality: The nut body is usually permanently marked with performance grade, material code, and manufacturing batch number, meeting the full-process traceability quality requirements for structural safety components in formal engineering projects.

III. APPLICATION SCOPE

High-Strength Structural Connections:

Wind Power Generation: If rated at Grade 10, suitable for connections of auxiliary structures inside wind turbine towers such as internal ladders, platforms, and cable brackets (Note: If specifically designed for tower flange surfaces, standard reference NB/T 31082 would be directly cited).

Steel Structure Buildings: Torque shear type or heavy hex head bolt assemblies for beam-column joints in high-rise buildings, long-span bridges, gymnasiums, and other major structures.

Heavy Machinery: Connection points subjected to heavy loads and vibration, such as base connections for mining equipment, crane slewing bearings, and shield machine cutterheads.

General Industrial Machinery: If rated Grade 8 or below, widely used in general machinery, automotive chassis, railway fittings, ship interiors, and other applications requiring moderate strength in flange connections or jam-nut conditions.

Specialized Equipment: Face-coupling scenarios for securing dies, fixtures, and hydraulic cylinder end caps that require frequent assembly and disassembly.

Procurement Questions

Common procurement questions about specification, material, finish and delivery.

Please confirm the application position, load, connection thickness and working environment first, then match diameter, length, thread pitch, material, strength grade, surface finish and applicable standard. Drawings, photos or old samples help us quote more accurately.

Hot-dip galvanizing and Dacromet are common choices for outdoor applications. For humid, coastal or chemical environments, stainless steel 304/316 or higher corrosion-resistant solutions may be better.

Please provide drawings or 3D files, material, dimensions, tolerance, grade, surface treatment, packing method and quantity. If drawings are not ready, samples or installation photos can also be reviewed.

Bolts and nuts should match nominal diameter, thread pitch, thread type, standard and strength grade. High-strength connections should also use suitable washers and anti-loosening solutions.
