Product Overview
The Open-End Wrench is a fundamental hand tool featuring a fixed-size, U-shaped opening at each end of its handle, allowing for the application of torque to the opposite faces of fasteners (typically nuts and bolts). Characterized by its slim profile and dual-ended design offering two different sizes, it provides access to fasteners in confined spaces where socket wrenches cannot fit. It is an essential, versatile tool for assembly, maintenance, and repair across all mechanical trades.
Key Features & Benefits
Access to Confined Spaces: The slim, open jaw design allows engagement with fasteners where there is limited side clearance.
Dual-Size Efficiency: Each wrench combines two commonly paired sizes, reducing the number of tools needed in a basic set.
Rapid Fastener Engagement: Can be quickly slipped onto a fastener from the side, facilitating faster work compared to ring spanners on partially exposed threads.
Durable Construction: Forged from high-grade steel for strength and longevity under high torque.
User Safety: Properly sized and hardened wrenches minimize the risk of rounding fastener corners and subsequent slippage.
Material & Manufacturing Specifications
| Attribute | Specification | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Primary Material | Chrome-Vanadium Steel (Cr-V) | AISI 6150 or equivalent. Provides an optimal balance of toughness, hardness, and resistance to deformation. |
| Manufacturing Process | Hot Forging & Heat Treatment | Hot forging ensures superior grain structure. Subsequent quenching and tempering achieve the required hardness and durability. |
| Finish | Polished & Plated | See “Surface Finishes” section below. |
| Standards Compliance | ASME B107.10M-2021 / DIN 3110 | Complies with dimensional, mechanical, and performance standards for open-end wrenches. |
Standard Series & Size Ranges
Wrenches are sized according to the distance across the flats (A/F) of the fastener they are designed to fit.
Metric Series: Sized in millimeters. Common range: 6mm, 7mm, 8mm, 10mm, 13mm, 17mm, 19mm up to 32mm and larger. Typical combinations: 8x10mm, 13x17mm.
Imperial (SAE) Series: Sized in inches or fractions thereof. Common range: 1/4″, 5/16″, 3/8″, 7/16″, 1/2″, 9/16″ up to 1-1/4″. Typical combinations: 1/2″x9/16″.
Jaw Design: Standard open-end angle is 15 degrees, allowing for operation in tight spaces by flipping the wrench.
Performance & Design Features
Beam Strength: Designed with a calibrated beam thickness to provide the correct leverage while minimizing weight.
Jaw Precision: Machined jaws with parallel faces ensure full contact with the fastener, distributing pressure evenly and reducing wear.
Handle Design: Often features a slight taper or ergonomic contour for a secure, comfortable grip. Size markings are clearly stamped for easy identification.
Surface Finishes
| Finish Type | Process | Characteristics & Benefit |
|---|---|---|
| Bright Polished Chrome | Electroplating over polished base | Standard finish. Provides good corrosion resistance, easy cleanup, and a professional appearance. |
| Satin Chrome / Nickel-Chrome | Dual-layer plating | Enhanced corrosion and wear resistance compared to bright chrome. Reduces glare. |
| Black Oxide / Black Chrome | Chemical conversion or plating | Matte black finish eliminates light reflection, reduces glare, and provides mild corrosion resistance. |
| Phosphate & Oil | Chemical coating | Economical rust prevention for industrial or toolset packaging. |
Typical Applications
General Machinery Maintenance: For accessing nuts and bolts on equipment with limited clearance.
Automotive Repair: Essential for hose clamps, fuel lines, and other components where a socket cannot be used.
Plumbing: Installing and adjusting fittings on pipes and valves.
Construction & Fabrication: General fastening tasks on steel structures, scaffolding, and framework.
Home DIY: A staple in any basic home tool kit for furniture assembly, appliance repair, and more.
Quality Assurance
Material Traceability: Steel composition is verified to meet alloy specifications.
Hardness Testing: Wrenches are tested to ensure a uniform hardness (typically HRC 39-45) for strength without brittleness.
Torque Testing: Samples undergo torque-to-failure testing to validate design strength far exceeds rated capacity.
Dimensional Verification: Jaw openings and overall dimensions are checked against master gauges.
Manufacturing
Our Open-End Wrenches are forged and finished by Hebei Wohe Fastener Manufacturing Co., leveraging our expertise in metal forming and finishing. Our tool manufacturing division utilizes automated forging presses, precision machining, and controlled heat treatment processes to produce durable, reliable hand tools. We supply OEM tool brands and distributors globally, ensuring our products meet the expectations of professional tradespeople and DIY enthusiasts alike.
Packaging: Available individually in poly bags, in vinyl roll-up pouches, or in sets within metal or plastic toolboxes.
Customization: Branding via laser etching or stamping, custom set configurations, and special finishes are available.
MOQ: For standard sizes and finishes, MOQ starts at 500 pieces per size. Custom orders are negotiable.
Lead Time: Standard items: 20-25 days for production. Stock items may be available.
Note: Always select a wrench that fits the fastener snugly to avoid rounding the corners. Do not use extensions (“cheater bars”) on the handle, as this may exceed the tool’s design torque and cause failure or injury. Regularly inspect wrenches for signs of wear, spreading, or damage.
